Royal Wool Winder & KnitPicks Needles
news image» We have just received delivery of the first Royal Wool Windersin the UK just for you! They are the same wonderful ones we use at Loop to wind your skeins for you and have found them to be the best on the market. They’re smooth and super easy to use and make great little ‘cakes’ of yarn so you can knit with ease. We tracked them down from Japan and are thrilled to have them at Loop for you to take home with you.

Loop has also just taken stock of the incredibly beautiful and very functional KnitPicks Interchangeable Harmony wooden needles and we love them. With your choice of cable lengths from 60, 80, 120 and 152mm and 8 different needle sizes from 3mm- 8mm you’re going to love having these on hand.

Crochet coral reef
news imageLoop is participating in the great Crochet Coral Reef project at the Southbank Centre in London in conjunction with the Crafts Council.

Bee Clinch, from Loop, will be on hand to help and teach you how to make more crochet coral to contribute to the UK Reef.

We will be there on 23rd June and 21st July from 5:30-7pm. It takes place in the Sunley Pavilion in the Royal Festival Hall.

The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef
The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef is a large-scale, handmade replica of the real thing. A woolly celebration of the intersection of higher geometry and feminine handicraft, and a testimony to the disappearing wonders of the marine world.

In 1997 Dr. Daina Taimina, a professor at Cornell University, astounded the scientific world by realising the first physical model of a hyperbolic plane, using crocheted wool. Using the same mathematical technique, two Australian sisters, Christine and Margaret Wertheim, created the idea for a Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef. Crochet is perfect for making coral as the hyperbolic way it increases has the same appearance.

The project, organised by the Los Angeles based Institute for Figuring, is a direct response to the plight of coral reef from pollution and global warming. Fusing science and mathematics with fine art and handicraft, the reef is constantly updated by an ever-expanding group of participants from around the world.

Sophie Girad crocheted necklaces » Loop is proud to now stock Sophie Digard’s exquisite crochet necklaces and scarves. French designer Sophie Digard creates accessories that beg to be touched - curious crocheted flowers with soft velvet buds, each leaf and petal crocheted individually. Her colour palette is all her own in deep plums and mauves, burnt orange and leaf green - with numerous fine threads in merino, mohair, and velvet giving rich, intense individual tones and making each item unrepeatable.

Read more about Artesano, or check out the lovely Hummingbird yarn (we're particularly keen on the Sunbird colourway - lovely!)

Pretty Knits cover» Loop is over the moon with excitement about the publication of it’s two books 'Loop Pretty Knits' and 'Loop Vintage Crochet'. Both are published by Jacqui Small Publishing.!

They are both chock-full of gorgeous designs that have been commissioned from an array of incredibly talented people (Leigh Radford, Debbie Bliss, Louisa Harding, Catherine Tough, Kristeen Griffin-Grimes and Kate Samphier amongst a host of other wonderful designers) working in knit and crochet. I was honoured that they took time out of their busy lives to contribute to the books.

Vintage Crochet coverThere are designs for everything from cardigans, wraps, shrugs, dresses and capelets to throws, bags, tea cosies, lavender heart pillows and necklaces. Even a tent!

Some of the patterns are for beginners who might want a little nudge to learn new techniques, while others are quite advanced. We’re very proud of the books and hope you find some inspiration in them.
